Patchogue resident Christian Vasquez drove west in the eastbound lanes of the LIE early on Monday morning, Aug. 17, taking Suffolk County Highway Patrol officers on a chase that started near exit 63 in Holtsville, according to authorities.

Police said that officers chased Vasquez until his car was ultimately stopped by spike strips that were deployed near exit 52 in Dix Hills.

According to police, the chase began at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Monday when officers on patrol spotted a Nissan, driven by Vasquez traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the expressway.

When the officers attempted to stop Vasquez, police said that he “did not comply.” The pursuit lasted more than 15 miles.

At the time of the chase, police said that Vasquez had two adult passengers in the vehicle, but there were no reported injuries.

Vasquez, 28, was arrested without incident and charged with driving while intoxicated.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip later on Aug. 17.
